The Antonio Picado Model 62 and Model 62DT guitars are identical on the outside. It’s only the internal doblo tapa feature of the Antonio Picado Model 62DT that separates it from the standard Model 62.

Whilst similar in name, ‘Doblo Tapa (DT)’ is quite different to other ‘Double Top’ classical guitars in terms of construction. Whilst a double top guitar is one that has two thin soundboards sandwiched together (usually with a core of silk or nomex in between), ‘doblo tapa’ is actually a double BACK. You can spot this by taking a peek inside a doblo tapa guitar. The internal layer of the back will be a different wood compared with the external layer of the back. In the case of the Antonio Picado Model 62DT, the internal part is a 1.2mm layer of cedar, whilst the external part is a 1.9mm layer of Madagascan rosewood.

Aside from that, the M62 and M62DT are identical in their dimensions, bracing etc. They’re both made in Spain in the same workshop by the same vastly experienced luthier (Ángel Genis). To play, they also feel very similar in the hands too. There’s really not a lot to choose between them on the surface. So, is there any difference in sound? Are your ears good enough to pick out the differences?
