Nina

A superb 2010 Kevin Aram “Nina” classical guitar, handmade in England and presented in exceptional condition.

Kevin Aram is one of the most respected English classical guitar makers of his generation. Based in North Devon, he has spent more than four decades building handmade instruments in the Torres and Hauser tradition, developing a reputation for musicality, balance and playability. Among the professional players to have used his work was Julian Bream, who bought Aram’s “La Cancion” in 1986 and “Myrtle” in 1988; both were used in concerts worldwide, with “Myrtle” also used for Llobet’s Popular Catalan Folksongs on Julian Bream – La Guitarra Romantica.

Nina is one of Kevin Aram’s own Aram models, based on his interpretation of a 1940s Hauser I plan given to him by Jeffrey Elliott. It is not an exact copy, but an individual Aram guitar drawing on the Hauser tradition while retaining Kevin’s own distinctive voice and style.

The guitar has a European spruce top with CSA / Amazon rosewood back and sides, a Brazilian cedar neck, ebony fingerboard, bone nut and saddle, and an oil finish. The rosette is in a Torres inspired style, made from walnut, maple and black-dyed maple. The guitar is fitted with Rodgers tuners, a premium and highly desirable choice that further underlines the quality of the instrument.

The guitar has a 650mm scale length, 52mm nut width, and is supplied with a BAM case. The internal label confirms the 2010 date, which has also been confirmed directly by Kevin Aram.

It should be noted that “Nina” is in truly exceptional order, with only one tiny, hardly noticeable string whip (see photo). Otherwise, it presents as pristine. It cannot be stated strongly enough how clean an example this is. Mint but for the tiny string whip. Incredibly well looked after by it’s prior owner.
