Consignment overview

Sell your guitar through CGA

For selected classical guitars, CGA can manage the sale on your behalf—from assessment and presentation to speaking with prospective buyers.

The advantages

Why consignment?

01

Specialist presentation

The guitar is assessed and presented in a setting devoted to classical players and individual instruments.

02

Fully managed sale

CGA handles the presentation, enquiries and practical conversations with prospective buyers on your behalf.

03

Leverage our audience

We promote suitable instruments to our social media following and mailing list, as well as to active pupils taking lessons with CGA in the studio and online.

04

Potential for a stronger return

When immediate payment is not the priority, consignment may offer a stronger eventual return than a direct dealer sale.

How it works

The consignment process

From the initial details to the managed sale, each stage is discussed with you before proceeding.

  1. Step 01

    Tell us about your guitar

Share the maker, model, condition and any photographs you have, together with your location and expectations.

  2. Step 02

    Review and inspection

CGA reviews the information and, if the guitar may be suitable, arranges a physical inspection.

  3. Step 03

    Discuss the arrangement

CGA discusses the proposed price, commission and practical details with you. The individual terms are confirmed before you proceed.

  4. Step 04

    Present and manage the sale

Once accepted, the guitar is prepared and presented to prospective buyers. Completion and payment follow the agreed terms.

Consignment questions

The exact arrangement is confirmed for each accepted guitar. These answers explain the first step; the individual commercial terms are discussed with you directly.

01Do you accept every guitar on consignment?

No. CGA considers the instrument’s quality, condition, repair history, likely demand and fit with the current collection. If you are unsure, an enquiry is still the simplest place to begin.

02Will consignment achieve a higher price?

It may produce a stronger eventual return than a direct dealer sale, but no selling price or timescale can be guaranteed. CGA discusses the likely position with you before you decide.

03How is the asking price agreed?

CGA proposes an asking price after reviewing and inspecting the guitar. The price and any later review process are discussed with you and confirmed as part of the individual arrangement.

04What commission does CGA charge?

The commission rate is discussed with you privately and confirmed before anything is agreed.

05How long will the guitar take to sell?

There is no fixed timescale. Demand varies by maker, price, condition and the individual instrument. CGA discusses the intended consignment period with you before proceeding.

06What happens while the guitar is with CGA?

The practical arrangements for custody, care, insurance, viewings and any authorised preparation are discussed and confirmed before the guitar is left with CGA.
